The Bickerstaff brothers from Marr and three GHA players are heading off with the PROJECX Waterboys are to a top quality sevens event in Cork this weekend.
The Waterboys performed well at the Hong Kong 10s earlier this month and now players from Scottish clubs GHA, Boroughmuir, Watsonians, Howe of Fife, Currie and Marr will aim to make their mark at the Heineken Kinsale Sevens Rugby Festival in Kinsale, Ireland on Saturday and Sunday.
Marr’s try scoring brothers, Conor and Scott Bickerstaff (pictured), will be on the tour together just weeks after helping their club side win BT National League Division One.
Conor said: “I am a Waterboys first timer this weekend, really looking forward to the experience and challenge of playing sevens at this very high level.
“It’s a huge honour, to be involved with this team with the calibre of players selected.
“I have either played against or seen most of the players involved. I’m looking forward to linking up with all the boys and hopefully we can put a marker down for the Waterboys in an Elite event against top quality sides. I
The 15s season for Marr has been great with promotion into the BT Premiership and 19 league tries to my name finishing tied top league try scorer with my brother Scott. Sevens season just started for Marr, but happy with our cup win at Greenock last Saturday.”
GHA’s Peter Jericevich captains the Waterboys this weekend and is joined by club team mates Nigel Kelly and Andrew Goudie.
Nigel said: “This is my sixth tour with the Waterboys, I played in Dubai for the last two years and Budapest the last two years also and travelled to Hong Kong last year.
“It is a massive honour to be selected for Kinsale especially after seeing the boys that I will be playing alongside. For a young guy like me it’s really amazing to be able to have the opportunity to play at such an amazing tournament and from what I have heard it is one of the most competitive out there.
“I think the team is probably one of the strongest I’ve played in. There is strengths all over the field and I think we will do some serious damage on the field. The Kinsale sevens is a big tournament at a high standard so it will be interesting to see how we compare to other teams. I’m very confident for this one.”
Once again PROJECX, International Power and Water Investments, JA Resorts & Hotels, Ace Property Management , Sarcogent Solutions and Ethigen are supporting the team. They also have a range of new sponsors including Kyloe Restaurant (Signature Pubs), Orion Systems, St. Julians Advisory, 4 Navitas and Bureau.
