ABOUT GH MEDIA
Ever since he can remember Gary Heatly has had a love for sport and a love for writing. While he was at school growing up in Edinburgh he set about combining the two and began to write match reports for rugby and cricket matches that his friends were playing in.
That progressed to getting involved in the school magazine and then writing for the university newspaper and so on.
Having cut his teeth in the ‘real world’ at the Midlothian Advertiser newspaper for a couple of years he has since been kept busy as a member of the editorial team at SCRUM Magazine – Scotland’s only dedicated rugby union title – whilst providing regular sports content to various national newspapers and websites.
Glasgow Warriors communications manager:
“Gary has been a key member of the Warrior Nation editorial team over the last few years. He produces feature interviews for our matchday magazine, along with content on the opposition. He has a very good knowledge of the game, making his articles interesting and insightful.”
Newspaper and broadcast journalist for national outlets over the last 25 years:
“Gary has a terrific dedication to sports journalism, matching a passion for sport with a commitment to reporting fairly and with balance. I have known Gary since he took his early steps into journalism and am delighted to see how far he has come.”
Rugby World Cup 2015 publications editor:
“Gary was employed by us on many occasions both before and during Rugby World Cup 2015. On every occasion I found his work to be of the highest quality, written to length, brief and style. I would have no hesitation whatsoever in either using Gary again or recommending him to others.”
Every athlete, be it an amateur or a professional, has a story to tell and Gary Heatly enjoys producing tailored content that does that story justice.
Gary can turn his hand to most sports when it comes to producing great content, whether it is interviewing Scottish sporting stars like Stuart Hogg, putting together a cracking feature on a grassroots initiative or tailoring content for clients to make sure they get the right response from their target audience.
Having been involved in newspapers, magazines and websites for many years, Gary is adept at proof reading while he can also turn his hand to topics outside the sporting sphere.
Cricket Scotland communications manager:
“Gary has extensive knowledge of copy writing and reporting on sports, whether it be at grassroots or elite level. It will always be well written, accurate and delivered in a timely manner. We have used Gary for a number of years for our copy and feature writing and will continue to do so.”
SCRUM Magazine editor:
“Gary’s unerring ability to have his finger on the Scottish rugby pulse is something that sets him apart as an authority on every aspect of the sport. Accommodating and encouraging as a colleague, he displays a passion for rugby that few others can compete with.”
Ex-Scotland rugby union captain:
“I have known Gary for many years and he has always been great to work with. When working on a project, Gary makes sure that both parties come out with the result they want and helps achieve a great outcome.”
Sports commentator with various outlets and former Scotland rugby union player:
“Gary is a very personable young journalist who brings an honesty and enthusiasm to all his work.”
Ex-Scotland Sevens rugby union captain:
“Gary has always been easy to deal with and has done his bit to promote rugby sevens over the years.”
A former sports editor for national outlets:
“Gary has his finger on the pulse of Scottish sport, particularly specialising in rugby and cricket. Media outlets know the importance of reliability, accuracy and creativity and Gary delivering all three, utilising his network of sporting contacts and continually coming up with fresh and enticing story angles.”
