The PROJECX Waterboys International Social team had a great start on day one of the Dubai Sevens – and co-captain Chris Scott is keen to see the good form continue over the next couple of days.
The squad, made up of players from a number of different clubs from Scotland and elsewhere, had a walkover first up in their pool when the opposition failed to show up.
The team, skippered by Watsonians’ Scott and Blackheath’s Alex Pickersgill, then saw off SAG Rhinos 56-7 in the midday sun.
On Friday at 10am (6am UK time) they take on the Snowden Chiefs in the final Pool A game before the knock-out stages later that day and on Saturday.
On being co-captain for the trip 26-year-old Scott said: “It is an honour to be one of the captains, the Waterboys are an incredibly impressive outfit with a global presence.
“The most important thing is to come away with some silverware and enjoy what will be a cracking week in the sun.
“I am enjoying playing in the team with some people I didn’t know before and catching up with some old faces. Dubai is famous for its sevens and getting the chance to play here is special.
“I played my rugby growing up at George Watson’s College and then moved on to Watsonians where it was an honour to captain the first XV at 18.
“I played for Watsonians for a few years and then played for Barnes down south for two years.
“Currently I work in London and travel weekly back to Edinburgh to play for Watsonians seconds.
“I have always loved sevens and have played with the Scottish Thistles, Penguins and various other invitational teams. I also have played 15s and sevens for various Scotland age-grade and development teams and won the Kongs of the Sevens with Watsonians.
“And, as I say, I am after more silverware with the Waterboys this week.”
Once again PROJECX, International Power and Water Investments, JA Resorts & Hotels, Ace Property Management, Sarcogent Solutions, Orion Systems, 4 Navitas and Bureau are supporting the Waterboys team.
They also have a range of new sponsors including Cold Town Beer (Signature Pubs), Arbikie Distillery, and KW Special Projects with Akuma Sports as the equipment supplier. Waterboys Rugby support the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and gifted the main sponsorship space to the foundation.
