More than 25,000 tickets have now been sold for the upcoming Scotland versus England Women’s Six Nations match at Murrayfield with national team skipper Rachel Malcolm calling the news “incredible”.

The milestone represents a significant moment for the women’s game in Scotland, underlining continued growth in both audience interest and matchday attendances for the national team.

The fixture, which will see Scotland take on the current Rugby World Rugby champions on April 18, is set to become the most highly attended standalone, ticketed women’s sporting event ever hosted in Scotland.

The rising ticket sales reflect increasing engagement across a broad audience, from dedicated rugby supporters to new fans who will be attending their first ever live women’s fixture.

A Scottish women’s record football attendance of 18,555 was at Hampden to see the women’s national team play Jamaica in 2019.

Back-row Malcolm said:  “I think it’s incredible.

“We’ve always been about growing the game and we’ve been so passionate about how great it [women’s rugby] is, but for a while it was just us shouting about it and nobody was listening. Now it feels like people are listening and people have got eyes on it.

“It’s so exciting to get those numbers to the game and have that iconic experience on the main stage. We’ve all been there to support our men’s national team and now that’s our stage which feels pretty surreal.

“We have a responsibility to put in a performance which makes people enjoy the experience, makes us enjoy the experience and continues to grow our game. It’s very exciting.”

Malcolm and co are currently in camp preparing for Saturday’s Six Nations opener away to Wales at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
