W6Ns build up: Magical memory made as rugby mad young girl Darcy Graham meets the ‘other’ Darcy Graham

A young rugby supporter who has Hirschsprung’s disease has met her sporting hero and namesake and created “a memory to cherish forever”.

Eight-year-old Darcy Graham from Dalkeith was invited to the Oriam to meet Scotland international winger – and top ever try scorer – Darcy Graham during the Men’s Six Nations.

The two Darcys spent time together on the pitch, sharing stories and taking part in light-hearted training drills.

The Scotland player said:  “It was a pleasure to meet my namesake.

“She’s incredibly brave and full of energy. Days like this remind you how powerful sport can be in bringing people together.”

The Edinburgh Rugby speedster, 28, also gifted the youngster a personalised Scotland jersey.

Young Darcy has had 10 operations over the past year, but had the “surprise of a lifetime” getting to meet the ‘other’ Darcy.

Hirschsprung’s disease is a rare bowel condition which can require major surgery and ongoing treatment from a young age and Darcy’s mum Natalie said:  “After having 10 operations over the past year and a very long time off school, this experience is one of the best and most energetic days she’s had in a long time.

“The experience and time given from Darcy to Darcy was very heartwarming and will be a memory we will all cherish forever.”

The experience was made possible by Arnold Clark.

The Men’s Six Nations and the U20 Six Nations may be over, but the Women’s Six Nations is coming soon and runs from April 11 to May 17.
