Four tries sees Waterboys make it two wins from two

The PROJECX Waterboys made it two wins from two in Pool A at the Hong Kong 10s with a comprehensive 28-0 win over the Silver Dragons.

At the Hong Kong Football Club, two tries from Scotland Sevens cap Ben Robbins and one apiece from Robbie Nelson and Danny McCluskey saw the Scottish select side home.

In the 10s format a quick start is key and the Waterboys certainly had one, Currie man Nelson showing the power that earned him a Club XV call-up this season with a try.

Scotland Sevens man Lyle converted.

Four minutes later McCluskey ran a good line to go over and the Ayr man, who has two finals to look forward to in the coming weeks with the Millbrae men, also converted.

Then, a minute before the break, Robbins showed why Calum MacRae gave him a Scotland Sevens debut in Sydney earlier this year.

His try and Lyle’s second conversion made it 21-0 at the interval.

The second half was all Waterboys, but just one more try was added from Robbins. Tom Wilson of Heriot’s converted and the 28-0 triumph sees the team up nicely for a Pool A decider with Penguin International at 5.50pm (10.50am in the UK).

Shaun MacDonald,, one of the standouts in this one, said afterwards:  “I thought we passed the ball better than in the first match and created some good chances.

“In the first half we did the hard work and we are set-up nicely for the third match later.”
