Robbie and Cameron aiming to be the centre of attention for under-20s

Robbie McCallum and Cameron Anderson will be looking to be the centre of attention in the Six Nations under-20 match for Scotland against Wales on Friday night at Meggetland (7.30pm).

Complutense Cisneros’ McCallum and Wasps’ Anderson come into the starting XV for Grant Hughes and Ollie Smith as Carl Hogg’s young team look for their first win of 2019.

South African-based No.8 Kwagga van Niekerk also comes into the starting XV for Ross Bundy after the match in France two weeks ago.

Head coach Hogg said: “I think there are aspects of our game that are really pleasing. When we get ball in hand, we are creating opportunities. We look very sharp and very clinical, which is really pleasing.

“The key challenge for us, as we’ve discussed all week, is making sure we perform consistently under pressure. And that’s the key for a full 80-minute performance.

“There have been huge improvements made over the first three games, but international rugby is about performing under pressure, so we’re looking forward to continuing our development this Friday night against Wales.”

Wales have travelled north with two wins and a defeat under their belts to date.

They beat England 11-10 last time out.

Their skipper Dewi Lake said:  “We can definitely win three games in a row and there is a lot of confidence in the squad, but not so much that we will be taking anything for granted in Scotland.

“We know it is not going to be easy. They have lost three in a row and will be bursting to try to end that run and win their final home game.

“There is a big onus on the whole squad to put on a good show. There are some big boots to fill for those players coming into the side after the England win, but it just shows what sort of strength in depth we are developing.”
