WXV Global Series travel week: “I love being part of the club” says Cougars’ skipper Zoe Turner as she reaches appearance milestone

Zoe Turner says that is a “privilege” to have played 100 matches for Corstorphine Cougars and that she loves the club.

The 24-year-old, who was part of the Arnold Clark Women’s Premiership title winning squad in 2024/25, is captain of the Union Park side this season.

She reached the appearance milestone versus Stirling County in the away league game last weekend on the same day Katie Lindsay reached 50 games.

Playmaker Zoe said: “It’s a bit crazy to think I’ve pulled on the Cougars’ strip 100 times now, but it’s always a privilege to be able to play for my team and it definitely feels sentimental and special to get to such a total.

“I think reaching 100 appearances shows just how much I value the team and the club and how committed I am to the cause – I hope to make 100 more appearances in the years to come!

“I grew up in Edinburgh and I started playing rugby when I was 10 at an after-school club at primary school and then I really got into it when I was in first year at high school.

“I have always been linked to Cougars and having my sister Emma there already and watching her from the sidelines made me determined to follow in her footsteps.

“As soon as I turned 17 the club coach at the time Eric Jones got me to do my dispensation forms and it was a quick turnaround into adult rugby – I have not looked back since!

“I love being part of the club, I’ve been with Cougars for coming up on eight years now in the senior team and I can’t imagine being anywhere else.

“I’ve seen the changes in personnel in the club and the team and I have also seen how much things have developed over the years. It’s a great club to be at and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Corstorphine so far.”

After finishing third after stages one and two combined in the Premiership last year, it has been a tough start this term under new head coach Gavin Emerson for Corstorphine and they have lost four from four to date to sit bottom of the eight-team standings.

“It’s an uncomfortable and tough position to be in just now,” Zoe admitted.

“So far, we’ve played the top four teams in the table and we knew it was going to be a really hard first few games, especially seeing as we haven’t been able to put out a consistent squad due to injuries.

“The squad has changed week in and week out and those changes have made it quite hard to continually practice and improve what we have needed to and then move on from the week before.

“We know as a squad we’ve a lot to give, we just need to keep building together.

“I think it’s really important to get a win this weekend [against Garioch at home], not only for our position in the table but also for the morale of the girls.

“It’s hard to keep the team spirit up when you are losing game after game, but I’m hopeful ahead of this weekend and I am looking forward to a good game at home.”

This weekend’s Premiership fixtures are here.
