Gloucester-Hartpury tighthead prop Maud Muir will earn her 50th international cap when England take on Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday (1.30pm, live on BBC).
The world champions defeated Ireland 33-12 last week in round one of the Women’s Six Nations at Allianz Stadium Twickenham and, in this round two game, Demelza Short will become Red Rose number 269 when she starts in the back-row.
In total, there are five changes to the starting team – and a few positional changes – for the Red Roses with Muir and Short being joined by second-row Abi Burton, stand-off Zoe Harrison and full-back Emma Sing in coming into the side.
Marlie Packer, Flo Robinson and Mia Venner have earned bench spots.
As a 20-year-old, Muir made her debut for England in a 43-12 win over New Zealand in 2021 and she has since become a multiple Six Nations Grand Slam winner and a World Cup champion aged just 24.
Bristol Bears’ Short, 19, was included in an England under-21 camp in January and received a senior call up ahead of the Six Nations after impressing in the PWR league.
England head coach John Mitchell said: “Last week was a positive start for us at home against Ireland.
“It was a special occasion to open the tournament at the Allianz and a great opportunity for this group to come together, but we know there’s plenty we can improve.
“Our focus this week has been on being honest about those learnings and turning them into actions as we prepare for Scotland.
“We’ve had to adapt to a number of changes with injuries to team mates who are hugely valued within the group, but that’s part of the culture we’re building. It creates opportunities for others to step up and highlights the depth we’re continuing to grow, both for now and the future.
“There’s a real hunger in this group to keep pushing forward, regardless of the challenges we face.
“We’re expecting a brilliant atmosphere in Scotland and it’s fantastic to see the women’s game continuing to grow with what will be a record crowd for a standalone women’s sporting event north of the border. That’s something everyone involved should be proud of and it sets the stage for a great contest on Saturday.”
England have not lost to Scotland since 1999 and have won 28 match ups in a row, beat them in the last eight of last year’s World Cup on their home soil and, in total against all opponents, have won 34 Test matches in a row.
