Scotland women and the 14 month journey – WRWC 2025: GH Media and Quirky Chocolate team up for the World Cup

Gary Heatly

The Scotland 32-strong Women’s Rugby World Cup squad for the showpiece event in England running between August 22 and September 27 will be named today (August 7) in St Andrews.

The excitement is building and there is also excitement here at GH Media as we are delighted to announce that we are linking up with Quirky Chocolate to help bring you some of our coverage during the big dance.

From today until September 30, GH Media will be following Scotland’s World Cup journey all of the way.

We will be at all of the Scotland matches down south and will be bringing you all of the interviews and news from camp as well as taking a wider look at the tournament as a whole and its impact on the women’s game.

And to help us with all of that we could not think of anyone better to link up with than a Scottish company that is run by someone who captained Scotland women in their first ever match back in 1993.

Sandra Colamartino is Scotland cap number six and was a driving force in getting Scotland to the stage where they could play that first Test versus Ireland at Edinburgh Accies’ Raeburn Place ground 32 years ago.

They won that game 10-0 and then Sandra and others helped Sue Brodie make sure that the 1994 World Cup would happen in Scotland after originally plans for the event in the Netherlands fell through.

And, in more recent times, 22-capper Sandra was a big player in getting ‘90 Days’ – a play about the organisation of that World Cup and the journey of the women’s game in the early days in this country – to the stage and what a wonderful show it is.

Sandra’s message to the current Scotland squad…

“Enjoy this moment. It’s special.

“You have all of Scotland, each other and every cap that’s gone before on your shoulder whispering in your ear, ‘you’ve got this’.

“You’ve dedicated so much to be here. The time has come to ignore all the noise and go play some rugby. Remember it’s all equal as you kick off. It’s 15 against 15. You are good enough.

“Go get it!”
