Hannah Ramsay has a “massive future” ahead of her in a Scotland shirt after she made her debut.
That is the view of skipper Rachel Malcolm following the Edinburgh University and Edinburgh Rugby playmaker, 21, coming on for the last eight minutes in the 34-29 Summer Test defeat to Italy in Viadana last Friday evening.
The former Scotland Touch player seems to now be in a good position to make it into the Women’s Rugby World Cup squad that is named next week as the back-up 10 to Helen Nelson.
After the match in Italy, Malcolm presented Ramsay with her cap and said: “Hannah has been preparing an awful long time for this opportunity and the development and progress you have made as a player has been an honour to watch.
“To come on at the end of a Test match and be so assured in that time that you were on the pitch shows everyone what you are about and I know you have a massive future ahead of you in a Scotland shirt.
“Massive congratulations to Scotland cap number 248 Hannah Ramsay.”
Meanwhile, Emma Wassell says she was “really proud” to represent Scotland again last Friday evening after 15 months out.
The 30-year-old second-row from Ellon now has 68 caps for her country after playing 61 minutes after recovering from a tumour in her chest.
“I’m just incredibly grateful and really proud,” she said.
“People have supported me who I didn’t even realise they were following the absolute crazy whirlwind journey that I have been on.
“I have lived and breathed this team and playing for this country, for a long time and, since my last opportunity in the shirt, everything has been about getting back to this level.
“I am really proud to be able to represent Scotland again and represent the people who have supported me through these last 15 months.”
Next up for Scotland is a final Summer Test versus Ireland in Cork on Saturday before the final 32-strong squad is named for the upcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup in England next week.
