Second-row Adelle Ferrie is one of nine uncapped players who have been training recently with Scotland as the Guinness Women’s Six Nations fast approaches and her coaches and team mates from Corstorphine Cougars could not be prouder of her.
The strong ball carrier and consistent performer is having the season of her dreams after helping the capital club win the Arnold Clark Premiership before Christmas and then played regularly for Edinburgh Rugby in the Celtic Challenge.
A few weeks ago Ferrie was then called up to train with Scotland for the very first time and has been part of the three pre-Six Nations training camps so far.
“I was really delighted to see Adelle get selected for the Six Nations squad,” Corstorphine Cougars head coach Eric Jones said.
“Adelle arrived at Union Park in 2021 and from then we knew she was going to be a great player for Cougars. Each season she had developed her game technically, tactically and physically and is often asking for little extras to sort on technical points. She’s also a great person and I am delighted that her hard work has paid off.”
Her second-row buddy at Cougars Caitlin Hadley stated: “I messaged her as soon as I found out about the Scotland call up and I am honestly so proud.
“She is the one of the hardest working players I know and she deserves this opportunity. Adelle has helped me a bunch in the second-row and I’m sure she’s going to thrive where she is and prove how much of an amazing player she is.
“Adelle is an absolute machine on the pitch and I know she will do the Cougars proud when she is in Scotland camp.”
Kiyomi Honjigawa, part of the Cougars leadership group, added: “We’re absolutely delighted for her. She’s one of the most genuinely hard working women I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing alongside.
“She constantly looks to improve herself but also others around her and is a real team player. It’s been a long time coming and the Scotland call up is very well deserved and everyone at Cougars is behind her every step of the way.”
Ferrie grew up on her family’s farm near Whithorn in Dumfries and Galloway.
“I first played rugby at university for Morgan Rugby Club who were affiliated with Abertay University at the time when I was in Dundee,” she said in a previous interview.
“Spells then came at Howe of Fife and Carlisle Cougars before settling with Corstorphine and I have loved my time with them so far.”
As mentioned, Scotland have had three recent training camps and from WC March 17 it’ll be all eyes on – and full steam ahead – for the Six Nations 2025 with Wales up first at Hive Stadium on March 22.
