Scotland rugby talent Sarah Bonar is ready to tick something off her bucket list by playing for the famous select side the Barbarians on Saturday.
And while other players might be flagging as the long, long 2025/26 women’s season finally comes to an end this weekend, the 32-year-old second-row is raring to go.
That is because the 51-times capped forward from Aberdeen missed the whole of the Women’s Six Nations in April and May with a back injury and only recently returned to action for her club side Harlequins at the end of the PWR English top flight regular season.
Bonar has been training in the London heat this week alongside fellow Scots Christine Belisle, Caity Mattinson and Jenny Maxwell and players from England, Spain, America, Wales, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
On Saturday, the men’s Barbarians squad and then the women’s Barbarians squad will be taking part in a double header versus Wales at Allianz Stadium Twickenham at 2pm and 5pm respectively.
“Getting a chance to play for the Barbarians is, for me, one of those bucket list things,” Bonar said.
“I have grown up idolising the Barbarians. They are a team made up of players from around the world that are just able to go out there and have fun playing their rugby.
“The values of the Barbarians are that of enjoyment, connection and blending different cultures together and that really excites me.
“I’m very honoured to be asked to pe a part of this squad and I look forward to making the most of it at the weekend whiles it’s nice to have a few other Scots in there too.”
