Nyle Godsmark was at Twickenham as part of the wider squad as Scotland Sevens won the London World Sevens Series event at the weekend – and now he is getting ready to head to Amsterdam with the PROJECX Waterboys.
A number of Scottish clubs are represented in two invitational squads selected to go to the event in the Netherlands this coming weekend.
And Melrose’s Nyle, whose twin brother Ryan is also making the trip, cannot wait.
This will be my debut for the Waterboys. Ryan has played for the Waterboys a few times and has really enjoyed it,” he said.
“I am excited to play for them, I have seen them play at Amsterdam before and watched them on the internet at the recent 10s tournament in Hong Kong and they looked like a team you’d want to get involved with.
“The Amsterdam Sevens is a great event to play in, top teams from all over the world play.
“Going into this my season with Melrose has gone well. We missed out in the BT Premiership league final to Ayr, but then went on to win the BT Cup the next week.”
Nyle started playing rugby at the age of 13 at Selkirk High School, playing there right through to under-18s and them moving up to senior level for two years before moving to Edinburgh and playing at Edinburgh Accies for another two years.
He said: “At the end of my last year at Accies I got signed by Scotland Sevens and was lucky to play in nine tournaments in that season.
“After that been playing my rugby at Melrose, it is a great club and I am privileged to be playing with a good bunch of players.
“Highlights for me so far include being with Scotland Sevens and going away at the start of this year to Wellington, New Zealand, and getting a bronze medal.
“The BT Cup win with Melrose was also special.”
