A Scotsman living in Belfast has been bringing the rugby ‘family’ together to help raise funds and awareness for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
Stuart Thom, Chief Executive of The Royal Belfast Golf Club, has a close connection with Doddie as both played at Melrose.
And Stuart supported the Foundation by organising an Ireland/Scotland rugby legends golfing event at his golf club in March 2018 which was supported by some of the greats from rugby in both countries.
Stuart has planned, and will be participating in, a larger and more ambitious event – The Great Rugby Cycle 2019 – next month.
The Great Rugby Cycle will cover over 1200 miles through Scotland and England during the latter part of the Six Nations stopping off at rugby clubs along the way.
The peloton will ‘rest’ in Richmond for a charity golf event at Royal Mid-Surrey on Friday, March 15 hosting a Scotland and World legends rugby charity golf event.
“The event in 2018 was well supported and I wanted to arrange another event during the Six Nations. The cycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End in March will be tough but will provide an opportunity to raise the awareness and funds for this worthy cause.”
