Ross Sutherland’s women’s team excited after playing their first fixture in a number of years against BanffBroch

Ross Sutherland’s women’s team are feeling excited after playing their first fixture since 2022.

Thanks to the hard work of a number of people, the women’s section at the club is in fine fettle once again after a lull and, on February 7, they hosted BanffBroch – made up of players from Banff and Fraserburgh – at the Naval Grounds in Invergordon.

Inverness Craig Dunain provided four players for the fixture to help out both sides and while the majority of players from the two teams had little to no experience in a game situation having only recently started training, that did not show on the pitch.

Ross Sutherland won the game 46-7 and their captain Jas Henderson said:  “We didn’t have any expectations going into the fixture, it was a development game to allow new players and players who haven’t played in a while to gain some more confidence and experience.

“Both teams really showed that they have been putting in the work at training and everyone enjoyed it. We have another friendly against BanffBroch this coming weekend [on February 21] and I am really looking forward to seeing the team continue to gain in confidence and put into practice what we have been doing at training.

“In the recent game, everyone played really well and put a lot of effort in and that is all I could have asked for from the team on the day. To come away with a win just made it even better.”

The game could not have gone ahead without the support of the wider Ross Sutherland committee while the women’s coaches Carl Beck and Gregor Mcpherson worked hard with the players to make they were ready for the outing. Ross Sutherland also want to say a big thank you to Jess Butler who refereed the game.
