W6Ns England week: Donna Kennedy and the Golden Girls are on their bikes again to fund raise for a great cause

There is a big Scotland-England Women’s Six Nations rugby match coming up on Saturday at Murrayfield.

But before that some former Scotland and England caps are teaming up to take part in a fund raising cycling challenge.

Between today (Wednesday) and Friday a team of construction workers are coming together for a big cross-country cycle and it’s a tough – but doable – 150-mile ride from Buckingham Palace to the Suffolk Coast passing beautiful English countryside and big construction and sporting landmarks such as the Lower Thames Crossing, Ipswich Town’s football ground and Sizewell C.

With 40 to 60 miles-a-day rides, this endurance adventure will undoubtedly end with an incredible sense of achievement with many memories and laughs being made along the way, not to mention raising support and awareness for mental health in the construction industry.

They are raisin funds for the Construction Sport charity which was formed in order to promote the wellbeing benefits of sport to the operatives within the construction industry.

Behind it are industry based professionals all with a huge amount of experience within the sector who share a passion to improve the poor wellbeing statistics that have surfaced across the industry over the past years.

And Scotland legend Donna Kennedy and her ‘Golden Girls’ team mates Tamara Taylor and Rocky Clark who both played for England are getting involved in the cycle.

Scotland women’s record cap holder with 115, Kennedy said:  “We’re back on our bikes again!

“Tam, Rocky and myself are taking on this ride with the team as part of the Construction Sport challenge and raising money for an incredible cause.

“These events are about more than just the miles, they’re about raising awareness, supporting mental health and standing together as a community. The construction industry in particular needs more conversations like this and we’re proud to play a small part.

“If you can, please support us, every donation makes a difference.”

The Golden Girls have taken on a number of fund raising challenges before and to support this one you can visit here.
