Women’s club rugby champions: Dalkeith “elated” with Aspiring league triumph

Dalkeith were named the Scottish Rugby’s club of the season at the end of 2023/24 and with loads going on at the club and their women’s team having recently won silverware it is clear that the Midlothian outfit are going well all-round.

And the aforementioned women’s team have a bright future for sure.

In recent months they have been playing in the Arnold Clark Women’s East Midlands Aspiring League and some goof form throughout led them to take on RDVC in the play-off final.

Dalkeith kept their cool in that one in early December and won it 45-7 to spark celebrations.

Player/coach Lynsay Halliday said:  “We are elated to have won the Aspiring league this season. It’s a great reflection of all the hard work that has gone into building the team up from four players 18 months ago to where we are now.

“We had a tough few matches this season in the league, but it’s a great achievement making it through with only one defeat. The majority of our players are still learning the game but their enthusiasm and effort is amazing.

“The highlight of the season for me has been welcoming one of the girls from our youth section into the senior team. She started rugby at Newbattle High School thanks to our launch of the School of Rugby there and has played for the club at under-18 level before but she has now taken the step up to senior rugby and is absolutely thriving as part of our team.

“We are really looking forward to next season when hopefully a few more of the younger girls will be joining us.”

In the new year the Caledonia Midlands East One champions and the Caledonia North Two champions will be confirmed.
