Something for everyone at the Edinburgh City 7s

Some of the top male club rugby players in the country, some female internationalists and even Glasgow Warriors forwards coach John Dalziel and former Scotland cap Cammy Murray are set to be in action in the various tournaments today at the Edinburgh City 7s.

The event was a success last year and the 2019 vintage looks set to be a cracker in Inverleith Park.

Twelve months ago the Elite men’s event was won by the South, but there will be a new name on the trophy this time.

The PROJECX Waterboys were beaten finalists last time out and they will have hopes of going all the way, the likes of Scotland Sevens cap Mungo Mason and Watsonians’ sevens player of the year Lewis Berg likely to be leading their charge.

They also have Boroughmuir duo Tom Wilson and Jordan Edmunds in heir squad.

The Rugby Plus Powerbombs are skippered by Heriot’s scrum-half Graham Wilson while Gavin Parker had a great season n the Kings of the Sevens circuit with Boroughmuir.

The likes of the Rex Club Red Kites and Samurai could be strong too while former Edinburgh Rugby players Sean Crombie and Tom Galbraith have been listed in the School of Hard Knocks charity team.

The other teams involved are the Clic Sargent Godfathers, Kaiviti Barbarians, The Wailers, the Commonwealth Crusaders and Tryumph.

In the Ladies Cup there is a good entry of 10 teams and they will play in two pools of five.

The Red Kites team includes the likes of Scotland cap Bryony Nelson and national sevens internationalist Evie Gallagher while the SCRUM RP squad features players such as international scrum-half Mhairi Grieve.

The men’s social event has 20 teams competing while there are four vets teams – Powerbombs, Biggar, Clic Sargent Godfathers and the Crusaders – set to attempt to role back the years.

The Powerbombs squad has a strong Borders slant to it and, according to the squad made public this week, will include the Warrior’s new forwards coach Dalziel and ex-Scotland winger Murray.

As well as all the rugby, there is a dodgeball event going on and lots of fun for the family.
