Futsal is a variant of football, played indoors with smaller teams and a high skill and energy level.

Wattcell general manager Steven Malin said:  “We are all really looking forward to this trip and testing ourselves against some top quality sides.

“Futsal is massive in some other countries and is played a lot more than it is here with some players even being professional.

“Having said that the Scotish league has grown quite quickly and because we have done well we have managed to attract some very good players to our team.

“Wattcell was set-up in 2015 by a group of us who were connected through Heriot-Watt University and it started out as just fun, but now we take it pretty seriously and to be in the Champions League with the prestige that that holds excitement levels have gone through the roof in recent weeks.

“We know that a Scottish team has never won a match in the Champions League, but we hope to change that. The opponents we will be facing will be tougher and a bit fitter than we are used to, but the guys will give it everything and to be representing Scotland is very special.

“By playing in this event we also hope to raise the profile of futsal in Scotland because it is a great sport which people of all ages and backgrounds can get involved in and it is a very sociable game.”
