The Peebles Riots girls section and the SLM Reds girls section from Madras joined with Portobello Youth Rugby and Garioch to enjoy an unforgettable day at Hive Stadium recently.

The young girls and boys from the different clubs were there as Edinburgh Rugby’s annual ‘Win a Training Session’ competition sponsored by the Scottish Building Society returned with its most exciting line-up yet.

The winning clubs were met by British and Irish Lions stars Darcy Graham and Ewan Ashman, Edinburgh women’s player and Scotland international Adelle Ferrie and club men’s player Rob Carmichael.

And during the training session everyone got straight into action with each Edinburgh star leading their own skills-specific drill.

The young players were put through their paces, soaking up knowledge and techniques they will be able to take straight back to their clubs.

After working up a sweat, the groups gathered for a Q and A sessions to give the young players a chance to put their questions directly to their heroes.

The day rounded off with a selfie and signing session, giving each young player the chance to connect personally with the stars they look up to.

Fiona Forsyth from the Peebles Riots said: “The Peebles girls had an absolute riot at the Hive. To train on the same ground where Edinburgh and Scotland women’s games are played was so special for them.

“All the players were so engaging with the girls too, it was something they will truly never forget.”

Melanie Dobie from SLM Reds added: “The Madras girls had such a brilliant experience training at the Hive.

“To be able to learn from Edinburgh and Scotland rugby players has given the girls a massive boost, they will remember this day for a long time.”
