Scotland internationalist Emma Wassell has signed for Trailfinders Women in England ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
The 30-year-old, 67-times capped second-row, who has not played a competitive game in over a year after battling back from a tumour in her chest, said: “I’m really excited to be joining the club. It’s a new chapter for me and it seems like a lot of fun down there.
“I’ve had a bit of a rough time of things to say the least and I just cannot wait to get back out there playing rugby with some incredible girls.”
Barney Maddison, the Trailfinders Women’s head coach, added: “Emma is a world class operator in the second-row. Her experience, consistency and leadership will be a huge asset to the squad and we’re thrilled to have her on board.”
Trailfinders have quite the Scottish contingent now with the likes of Caity Mattinson, Lisa Thomson and Chloe Rollie already having been on the books and now Wassell, national team skipper Rachel Malcolm and winger Francesca McGhie having joined up as well as Fraser Brown who will be coaching the women and men at the wider Ealing club.
Wassell and her Scotland team mates are currently in week four of five of the Edinburgh-based pre-Women’s Rugby World Cup camps.
- Scotland back-row Jade Konkel has been named the Harlequins women’s player of the season for 2024/25.
- Helen Nelson, the Scotland vice-captain, has re-signed for Loughborough Lightning.
- Fresh from leaving a similar role with Scotland, it has been announced that Matt Banahan will become assistant coach with English top flight PWR reigning champions Gloucester Hartpury from July 1.
