Scotland women and the 14 month journey – WRWC 2025 build up: Extended training squad members Evie Wills and Rhona Lloyd join Sale Sharks ahead of 2025/26

Scotland caps Evie Wills and Rhona Lloyd have joined Sale Sharks ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The centre and the winger, who have four and 57 international caps respectively, have moved to the PWR club from PWR rivals Leicester Tigers and Les Lionnes du Stade Bordelais in France.

They are both currently in the extended 38-strong Scotland training squad and are working hard in a bid to make it to the Women’s World Cup in England in August and September.

After that it will be full steam ahead with them with the Sharks and Wills, 24, said: “I felt I needed a change and Sale is the perfect club for me.

“There are people that I know at the club and coming to the club this summer and that feeling of familiarity is really important.

“I can already tell that the environment and the culture at the club are fantastic and that’s really important for me. I play my best rugby when I’m happy and I have no doubt that will be the case at Sale.

“I really enjoyed working with Tom Hudson at Leicester and I can’t wait to work with him and the rest of the coaches at Sale.

“I just want to keep improving and I’m so excited to see what we can achieve in the next few years.”

Sharks head coach Tom Hudson said: “I actually haven’t seen Evie in person for ages and that’s largely due to the fact that she has fought her way back into Scotland camp following her major injury setback last season.

“So, with the best possible intentions, I hope that’s exactly where she stays and we hopefully won’t see her until after the World Cup.

“The grit and determination Evie has shown, combined with her international quality on the field, are two of the main reasons why I’m so excited to have her here up north.

“Short of building a brick wall here at Heywood Road, Evie has proven over the last two seasons to be the greatest fix to shoring up any PWR midfield defence.”

Lloyd, 28, said: “I knew that I wanted to move back to the PWR because it’s the most competitive league in the world. With the World Cup coming soon, it feels like the right time.

“The culture at a club is really important to me and what they’re building at Sale impressed me straight away. They have personality in abundance and that fight and togetherness as a team and a club was really appealing.

“The team spirit really shines through and it looks like an environment that I can really benefit from, especially with the new coaches that are in place.

“The club has made some world class signings and it’s a really exciting time to be joining the club.”

Hudson added: “When you look into recruiting wingers, you’re looking for two main things – raw pace, and a GPS programmed directly to the try line.

“No matter where Rhona has played throughout her career, her stats speak for themselves when it comes to these two components.

“I can’t wait to see that raw pace in a Sale Sharks shirt and to get her GPS programmed for a final destination of the try lines at Heywood Road.”

Their Scotland team mate Eva Donaldson, the 23-year-old second-row, also joined Sale recently.
