W6Ns Ireland week: Unavailable captain Malcolm reveals extent of injuries she has picked up stating “when it rains, it pours”

Scotland’s injured skipper Rachel Malcolm has revealed that she suffered two knee tears against England a few weeks ago and has also torn her other calf.

On Monday, Scottish Rugby released a statement saying that the 34-year-old back-rower would be missing the final Women’s Six Nations away to Ireland this coming Sunday due to injury and that she would be returning to her club Trailfinders Women down south for rehab.

Since the round two England match at Murrayfield on April 18, Malcolm has missed the games against Italy and France.

And now she has taken to social media to detail the extent of her injuries.

“When it rains, it pours – two tears to my MCL against England followed by a tear to my calf have made for a rather painful few weeks,” the 64-capper said on Instagram.

“Some tournaments in sport can feel like a fairytale while others feel like a car crash in slow motion, but accepting that you are not always in control of that destiny can bring a heck of a lot of peace in the tough times that sport brings.

“I’m super grateful to have been able to stay around the group and be involved until this point in the tournament, but it’s now time to get home and find my legs again.

“Everything happens for a reason and I’m excited to find out what’s to come.”
