W6Ns France week: Falkirk “absolutely buzzing” ahead of National Bowl final as they look to complete the double

The Falkirk squad is “absolutely buzzing” ahead of this coming Saturday’s women’s National Bowl final against Gala.

The game will be played within the Murrayfield complex at 1.15pm before Scotland take on France at 4.15pm at Hive Stadium in round four of the Women’s Six Nations so there will be a real buzz on the day.

With Watsonians having won the Sarah Beaney Cup, Broughton having won the women’s National Shield and Lenzie having won the women’s National Plate on April 25 on Silver Saturday, Falkirk want to join them in the winner’s circle.

Before Christmas, Falkirk completed their Aspiring League campaign with a 57–24 victory over Gala at home at Horne Park.

And Falkirk made it through to this Bowl final by winning four out of four in the five-team group stage.

They defeated Aberfeldy away 69-0 first up then beat BanffBroch 59-0 at home.

Next up they were given a walkover 28-0 win over Gala who could not raise a side on the day and then they toughed out a 19-5 away win at Musselburgh.

“The team is absolutely buzzing for the final,” Falkirk captain Morven Hylands said.

“This opportunity hasn’t come by chance, every single player has earned it through hard work and commitment. What we’ve achieved in just two short years is incredible and it shows how much this means to everyone, whether they’ve been part of the team for months or since the start.

“We’re proud to represent Falkirk and show what this team stands for. We’ve grown into an inspiring and supportive group where everyone works hard for each other and takes pride in what we’re building. We’re incredibly grateful to our coaches for their constant support and the standards they’ve set for us, they’ve played a huge part in getting us here.

“No matter what happens on the day, I’m so incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved so far, this would just be the icing on the cake to an already fantastic season. We can’t wait to show exactly what Falkirk women are capable of.”

Falkirk head coach Callum Hunter added:  “It’s been a hugely positive season overall from us.

“To start with we’ve recruited really well throughout the season which has massively helped. This was our second competitive season in the Aspiring League and the first time we’ve been able to consistently put a full team out.

“To go undefeated so far in the league and this Bowl is obviously great, but it’s almost better to see the journey the players have been on. We’ve got a good mix of former youth players and players who were completely new to the game when they joined so to see them all doing so well together has been really enjoyable from the coaching group’s point of view.”

The trophy will be presented to the winning team at the Hive during half-time of the Scotland-France game while the Bowl final will be shown live on the Scottish Rugby YouTube channel.
