W6Ns Italy week: Bad news for Emma Orr and Evie Wills on the injury front

It has been confirmed that Emma Orr will be out long-term with injury while Evie Wills is set to be out for up to three months.

The two centres picked up injuries in round one of the Women’s Six Nations versus Wales and in round two versus England respectively.

Orr, the 23-year-old Biggar product who now plays for Bristol Bears in the PWR English top flight and has 35 caps to her name, has suffered an ACL knee injury.

And Wills, the 25-year-old Stirling County and Hillhead Jordanhill product with 10 caps who now plays for Sale Sharks down south, has suffered a dislocated shoulder.

“She’ll be out for the Six Nations and a slightly more extended period for now,” Scotland head coach Sione Fukofuka said when asked about Orr on Thursday while confirming it is an ACL injury.

“She’s obviously got to see a surgeon and get a slightly more professional opinion than mine, but it looks like an extended rehab that will still give her a time frame to be back next year within the Six Nations framework and obviously the [British and Irish] Lions.

“And Evie has had an assessment, has been to see a surgeon and she had a dislocation so she’ll be in getting surgery on Monday.

“The rehab timescale we are looking at [for Wills] is probably 10 to 12 weeks.”

With Jade Konkel, Lisa Cockburn, Caity Mattinson, Christine Belisle, Beth Blacklock and Molly Wright not involved post-Rugby World Cup in this campaign, Anne Young, Sarah Bonar, Evie Gallagher, Lisa Thomson, Orr and Wills out injured and Rhona Lloyd and Emily Coubrough missing this weekend’s Italy round three Six Nations game in Parma, the squad depth is getting stretched.

The first ever British and Irish Lions women’s tour that the head coach referenced when talking about Orr takes place next September to New Zealand.

If fit and firing, Orr will definitely be one of the Scots in contention for that trip. ACL injury rehab times vary in length depending on the exact nature of the specific injury, but it can often be nine months or more.
