Scotland women’s star Emma Wassell is set to make her return from long-term injury this weekend.
Having joined Trailfinders Women from fellow English top flight club Loughborough Lightning last summer, in October the extent of the knee issue that she had suffered during the Rugby World Cup in August and September in England was revealed.
At the time Trailfinders head coach Barney Maddison thought that the 31-year-old second-row would be out until late December, but the club and the player wanted to make sure everything was right and now she is good to go.
The player from Ellon with 72 Scotland caps to her name has been named on the Trailfinders bench for Saturday afternoon’s home PWR league match with Sale Sharks.
When she gets onto the field it will be her first competitive outing since she played for Scotland against England in the World Cup last eight clash in Bristol in September.
As well as helping the Ealing-based club, her return will be a big boost to new national team head coach Sione Fukofuka with the Six Nations starting in April.
A number of other Scots – including Rachel Malcolm as co-captain of Trailfinders – are playing in this game and across the PWR this weekend.
- The Celtic Challenge resumes this weekend after a break.
Round seven of the 10 regular season rounds takes place on Saturday and Sunday with Brython Thunder hosting Edinburgh Rugby, Gwalia Lightning taking on Clovers and Glasgow Warriors welcoming Wolfhounds to Scotstoun.
Come March 7, the regular season will be over and then the top four will play semi-finals on March 21 with the final at Hive Stadium in the Scottish capital on March 28.
