Scotland women and the 14 month journey – WRWC 2025 build up: Ticket sales for match V England at Murrayfield next year going well as skipper thanks supporters

After only eight weeks Scotland’s game against England at Scottish Gas Murrayfield is well on the way to seeing the highest ever home crowd for a Scotland women’s match coming through the doors, the governing body say.

On June 4 it was announced that the team will play in the main national rugby stadium at Murrayfield for the first time in a standalone international in front of spectators next April when England visit. The Guinness Women’s Six Nations match is on April 18.

The national team, which played its first ever official Test at Raeburn Place back in 1993, has played at Murrayfield eight times before with the first one being a 34-3 win in 2002 versus Sweden before a men’s clash with Fiji and the last one, a 53-0 loss to the English in 2020, being behind closed doors due to poor weather thanks to Storm Ciara. Six other games were played there between 20004 and 2005.

On June 9, it was announced that supporters had been snapping up the chance to part of it, buying nearly 3,500 tickets in the first four days of sales.

And now the ticket sales mean that the crowd is already the second highest ever for a home game and well on the way to becoming the highest ever. The highest to date was a Hive Stadium sell out of 7,774 versus England in 2024.

A Scottish women’s record football attendance of 18,555 was at Hampden to see the women’s national team play Jamaica in 2019 and, after selling over 7,774 tickets, 18,556 will be the next aim for Scottish Rugby with 30,000 hoped for if possible.

On hearing the latest about ticket sales, Scotland captain Rachel Malcolm said:  “What amazing news.

“To know there are so many fans already committed to going to the game next spring is immense. It’s a massive statement about how far the women’s game in Scotland has come.”

The introductory ticket offer – discounted ticket price allowing fans to choose to sit anywhere for the same great price: £15 (Adults) £10 (Under-18) £5 (Under-12) – is still in place but will end soon.

“We are running the Best Seat, Best Price offer until we reach the highest ever crowd for a home Scotland women’s game,” Olaf Gueldner, chief customer officer at Scottish Rugby, said.

“Ticket prices will still be very competitive after that, but if you want the discounted prices don’t hang about because we’ve almost reached that highest home crowd target – so go and grab them now.”

Of course, the upcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup is the main priority just now and the 32-stromng squad for the event will be named on Thursday.

  • The next batch of best women’s rugby players in the world list heading into the World Cup have been announced by RugbyPass and Scotland duo Rachel Malcolm and Evie Gallagher are at 39 and 37 respectively.

  • Women’s Rugby World Cup England 2025 has unveiled Strong Bodies, Strong Minds which is a new campaign aimed at empowering women and girls by sparking a conversation around body confidence in sport. Scotland winger Rhona Lloyd features and in the marketing material is wearing the glasses made by Millie Rorison.
