Hillhead Jordanhill got their Arnold Clark Women’s Premiership campaign off to a fine start last weekend as did their teenage winger Niamh MacGregor who scored two tries in their 32-17 bonus point away win at Corstorphine Cougars.
After the Glasgow side missed out on the top four during stage one of the campaign last time around, there is a determination within the group to make sure they are in the top four this time when the split comes in the eight-team top flight.
And things have begun well and they will now look to build on the victory at Union Park in Edinburgh when they host Garioch at Hughenden on Saturday.
MacGregor, 19, said: “The team were pleased to win against a strong and physical Cougars side.
“It gave us confidence and belief heading into the season and the performance was proof of the good training effort from all players that was put in during pre-season.
“This weekend we hope to field a strong team for our first home game of the season. To keep momentum going and build on last week’s win is our objective this weekend and our preparations in training this week have been shaped by last week’s performance.
“My hopes for the team this season are to compete with the top three teams in the Premiership and, personally, I would like to perform consistently with Hills and keep learning and developing my game.”
MacGregor was born in Glasgow and spent some of her early school years in Aberdeen.
“I started playing rugby at Stonelaw High School in Glasgow and then joined the first ever girls team at Cambuslang RFC which is my local club,” she explained.
“After I finished with up with Biggar at under-18 level post-Cambuslang, I was looking for a Glasgow women’s team and ended up joining Hills.
“The club is a great one to be playing at because of the high standard of rugby that is here along with the supportive and inclusive environment that the group at Hills have created.”
