Scotland national team captain Rachel Malcolm has joined Trailfinders Women.
She is currently in Scotland camp preparing for the Rugby World Cup in August and September and the 34-year-old back-row said: “I’m super excited for a new experience down in London.
“This move had to be right for me as a person as well as a rugby player. I wanted to go somewhere where I can challenge myself and strive to be the best player I can be.
“The group of players that have been put together at Trailfinders is exciting.”
Trailfinders head coach Barney Maddison said: “Rachel brings immense leadership, experience and a tireless work ethic to the club.
“She is a fantastic addition to our squad, and we are excited to see the impact she will have.”
In February it was announced that Malcolm, who has 56 international caps, would be leaving Trailfinders’ PWR rivals Loughborough Lightning at the end of the 2024/25 season.
A ‘Lightning Original’, she was on the pitch for Loughborough’s very first game against Worcester Valkyries in September 2017 and was the longest-serving squad member.
- Scotland vice-captain Helen Nelson has re-signed with Loughborough Lightning.
The 31-year-old stand-off, who first played the game at Jubilee Park in Ballachulish with the Glencoe Golden Eagles, joined the club in 2019 and has gone to amass 65 appearances and scored 103 points across six seasons so far for them.
She said: “I’m delighted to be staying with Loughborough Lightning.
“We really improved during the 2024-25 season and really started clicking and showing how good we can be, especially in the last run of games so there is lots to build on going forward.”
- The Rugby Europe Sevens Championship Series for women and men got underway for 2025 in Makarska, Croatia, last weekend and Great Britain women and France men came out on top with Scot Liz Musgrove helping the former.
In the women’s final, France took the lead with an unconverted try in the first half out wide by Camille Grassineau.
France then had a player yellow carded and Great Britain took advantage, Reneeqa Bonner scoring out wide and the conversion being successful from Rosie Inman as they led 7-5 at the break.
They then scored early in the second period via Charlotte Woodman and when the same player showed great pace to go over again – converted by Inman – it was 19-5.
France got a try back via Marie Dupouy, who also converted, but Great Britain held on to win 19-12.
