Trailfinders Women have re-signed Scottish international duo Caity Mattinson and Lisa Thomson ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Signed in 2024 from Gloucester-Hartpury, 29-year-old scrum-half Mattinson has quickly become a key figure in the PWR outfit’s squad.

Known for her speed and expertise from the base of the scrum Mattinson has accumulated vast international experience with Scotland in 31 caps since her debut in 2022 and has since gone onto to feature at the Rugby World Cup later that year and at WXV 2 twice.

Speaking on her re-signing, former England cap Mattinson said: “I’m excited to stay with Trailfinders Women and continue to contribute to such a talented team.

“I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead and building on what we accomplished last season.”

Barney Maddison, the club’s head coach, added: “Caity’s quick thinking and precision as a scrum-half have been vital to our game plan.

“Her ability to perform under pressure has been impressive, and we’re thrilled to have her back for another season.”

In terms of 69-times capped centre Thomson, last season marked her first full season in 15s for a while after a successful time with GB Sevens.

From the start of 2024/25 she became a key player in the Trailfinders squad and she brings a wealth of experience

Her performances during the recent campaign for Trailfinders were outstanding, scoring five tries, including two in a thrilling 39-38 win over Bristol Bears in January.

Her leadership, skills and versatility earned her a deserved Coaches’ Player of the  Season award and she said:  “I’m thrilled to be staying with Trailfinders Women.

“This club has been a fantastic place for me to develop, and I’m excited to continue contributing to our success on the field.”

Maddison added:  “Lisa’s leadership, experience and ability to perform in critical moments have been invaluable for us. We’re excited to have her back and look forward to seeing her continue to grow as a player and leader next season.”

Both Mattinson and Thomson will have eyes on the Women’s Rugby World Cup next with a Scotland wider training squad set to be named soon and the group back together as of early June.
